William Proctor, Jr. Obituary

William Benson Proctor, Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed away on March 29, 2026, in Lansdowne, Maryland. Bill was born on December 4, 1931 in a house in Lansdowne, MD, to the late William and Marion Proctor. He lived a life marked by dedication to his country, commitment to his community, and love for his family.

Bill served honorably in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War, a period that shaped much of his character and sense of duty. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to public service as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, where he retired after many years of dependable service.

Bill cherished his time engaged in karaoke, bringing joy and music to those around him. In his younger years, he delighted in crabbing, embracing the simple pleasures and rich traditions of his Maryland roots.

Among his many accomplishments, Bill was especially proud of his leadership role as the Maryland State Commander for the American Legion from 1997 to 1998, a testament to his enduring commitment to veterans and community service.

Bill is survived by his son, Steven M. Proctor; his daughter, Cynthia A. Dunn; his grandchildren, Jennifer L. Helmick, Brian A. Pighini, and his fiance', Christina Nugent; and his brother, Robert Proctor (Shirley). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy P. Proctor; his daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Proctor; and his sons-in-law, Michael A. Pighini and Howard Dunn.

Throughout his life, Bill was a pillar of strength, warmth, and humility. His contributions, both in service to his country and in his personal relationships, leave a legacy honored by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and community in Landsdowne and beyond.
