William (Bill) Robert Hamilton passed away on 2 June 2026 at the age of 67 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD after a long illness. Bill was born on 28 January 1959 in a United States Army hospital in Okinawa, Japan. Since Bill's father was in the US Army, Bill and his parents and his brothers and sisters lived in various locations. Bill's favorite place was Hawaii, and he had fond memories of his childhood there. Bill's family eventually settled in Woodbridge, VA where Bill attended high school. After high school Bill moved to Alabama in 1977 and attended the University of Alabama as a freshman before returning to VA where he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1978. He proudly served our nation for five years and was stationed at Iraklion Air Station on Crete, Greece and later at Ft. George G Meade in MD. Bill married Teresa Moline on 2 January 1985 and the two were later blessed with three children.
Bill attended Howard Community College in 1985 and then worked for several years for the Aramark and Frito Lay companies in MD. He also worked for Frito Lay in Phoenix, AZ where he enjoyed exploring the area and spending time with his sister-in-law and her family and his brother-in-law. Bill completed his studies at the University of MD Baltimore Campus and earned a BS in Biology in 2000. After graduation Bill worked for the MD Department of Natural Resources as a field biologist. That was his "dream job." He worked for the Department for several years before retiring. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and small and large gatherings with his parents, brothers and sisters and their families. He also enjoyed spending time on Maryland's waterways while with DNR, fishing, football, playing basketball, and cooking. He had a keen interest in aquatic life, insects, animals, and nature and enjoyed reading about them as well as reading many books of classic literature. Bill also had a deep faith and read and studied books of a spiritual nature.
Survivors include his son, Andrew Hamilton of Glen Burnie, MD; daughter, Sarah Hamilton and her fiancée, Edward Driver of Brooklyn, MD; his former wife, Teresa Hamilton of Glen Burnie, who has always remained in his life; parents, Donald Hamilton of Woodbridge, mother, Matilda Kromis of Montclair, VA; brothers, Donald Hamilton Jr. of Montclair, Michael (Judy) Hamilton of Clarksville, TN; and sisters, Lisa Smith (Thomas van Walsem) of Montclair and the Netherlands, and Sharon (Michael) McClelland of Stafford, VA; former sister-in-law, Mary Millikan of Apache Junction, AZ; former brother-in-law, Cristopher Moline of Wausa, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Marissa Hamilton; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
"It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. A part of us went with you the day God called you home. "Bill was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11th, at St. Mary’s of the Mills in Laurel at 11 am. His inurnment will immediately follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 1201 Sandy Spring Road Laurel, MD 20707.
