Vera B. Morales, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished Nana, dear sister, and faithful friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Vera was born in 1953 in Pontiac, Illinois to the late Robert Byrne and late Josephine "Ethel" Byrne. She lived on a dairy farm for the majority of her life. In 1973 she decided to serve her country proudly by joining the US Army as a Medical Specialist. While stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia, she met the love of her life, Thomas Morales, and the two were married in September of 1974.
Military life took Vera and Tom to San Francisco, Germany, and eventually Fort Meade, Maryland, where they planted their roots with their two sons, Thomas and Robert.
Following her military service, Vera dedicated the next few decades working as a Dental Assistant at Dobbin Dental in Columbia, Maryland. She formed lifelong friendships with her coworkers, who became like her family. Diana "D" and Loretta were more than colleagues, they were her “sisters” and together along with Vera they affectionately became known as the “Golden Girls.”
Vera enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Her hobbies included jewelry making, acrylic painting, Chinese calligraphy, drawing, card making, belly dancing, and gardening. She loved attending estate sales and raising her chickens.
Family was always the center of Vera’s world. She was blessed with a daughter-in-law, Tammy, whom she loved as a daughter of her own. Becoming a “Nana” was one of her greatest joys, and she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. Even the family dog, Roxy, held a special place in her heart and was lovingly considered one of her grandchildren.
Vera touched countless lives through her compassion, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her gentle spirit leaves behind a legacy of love - one that will echo and continue to inspire through generations to come.
Vera is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas "Tom" Morales, Jr.; her loving sons, Thomas Edward "Tommy" Morales and Robert Michael "Robbie" Morales, and his wife, Tammy; and her cherished grandchildren, Anjuli, Elijah, Gabriel, Tempest, Moira, Amelia, Matthew and Tristan. She is also survived by Tommy’s ex-wife, Mandy Morales; and several dear siblings, Robert Byrne Jr., Richard Byrne and his partner, Sue, Joyce Grant and her husband, Kevin, Ruth Venell and her husband, Chip, Steven "Curt" Byrne and his wife, Trudy, Lisa Glenn and her husband, Christopher; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmom Rose, and siblings, Marianne Bailey and Rhonda Byrne.
