Sonji Rene Khan, “Sony”, 60, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on June 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sonji was born in Boston, Massachusetts to proud parents, Edward and Doris Brooks. She was raised in the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Sonji graduated from North Central High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix.
Sonji went on to build a successful career dedicated to public service and technology. She worked as a Cyber Security Specialist with the Social Security Administration for thirteen years. She was deeply committed to her profession and took great pride in her work.
Beyond her career, Sonji was a passionate advocate for cancer research and awareness. As an active volunteer with the Pancreatic Cancer Society, she devoted countless hours to supporting others affected by the disease and helping raise awareness in the ongoing search for a cure.
Sonji was not defined by her illness. She embraced life with enthusiasm and adventure. She enjoyed riding bicycles, traveling throughout the world, and sharing her love of music as DJ Sonjee. Later, she discovered and mastered crafting; she created fashionable T-shirts, customizable tumblers, and blinged out Crocs.
Above all else, Sonji cherished her family. She found her greatest joy in spending time with loved ones and creating lasting memories. Her strength, kindness, and resilience will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sonji was preceded in death by her loving grandparents, great-grandparents, many aunts and uncles.
Sonji is survived by her husband, Michael Khan; loving parents, Edward and Doris Brooks; devoted sisters, Tonya Brooks and Tina Seales. She will be missed and honored by her adored nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of family and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, on Saturday, June 20th, from 10 – 11 am with a service immediately following at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by visiting www.pancan.org
