Mr. Samuel “Sam” Raymond Nevin, Sr., a lifelong resident of Glen Burnie, passed away at the age of 98 on Wednesday, May 20. 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and the memories of a life well lived. Born on January 30, 1928, to Robert and Mary Agnes Mulcahy Nevin, Sam lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to his country and community, and a quiet genuine kindness that touched all who knew him.
Sam proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He served in Manila, Philippines and received a World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he dedicated 36 years to the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, becoming a familiar and friendly face throughout the Glen Burnie community he loved so dearly. Known for walking nearly 10 miles a day along his route, Sam approached his work with dedication, reliability, and pride. He shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Loretta, until her passing in 2006. Together they built a family grounded in love, resilience, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
Sam was a devoted father to his daughters, Mary Elsroad (Dan) and Angela Satterwhite (Fred). “Pop” was a proud grandfather to Rachel Molloy (Christopher) and Michael (Momo Nakamura) Elsroad, and a cherished great-grandfather to Atlas, Salem, and Quest Molloy, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Samuel “Sammy” Raymond Nevin, Jr.; his brothers Robert, Thomas, John, and James Nevin; and his sister, Margaret Asher.
Sam was a longtime member of the Calvary Temple Church where he served as an usher and a deacon as well as the Grace of God Fellowship. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, coaching his son Sammy’s Little League baseball team, watching television, and spending treasured time with family and friends. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and rarely missed the excitement and tradition of the Glen Burnie Carnival, an event he attended faithfully for 86 years. Above all, Sam will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his dedication to service, and the warmth, humor, and generosity he shared so freely with others. His legacy lives on in the generations he helped shape and in the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable 98 years.
