Robert “Bob” Nils Anderson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful servant to the Episcopal church and community passed away peacefully at the age of 87, on April 18th, 2026. Born in 1938, in Nutley, New Jersey, to Samuel J. Anderson and Irma M. Anderson, he spent his early childhood in Glen Burnie, MD, when his father was transferred to supervise shipbuilding operations at Bethlehem Steel and later graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1957.
Bob married the love of his life, Richarda “Rikki” Anderson in May 1965, after a fateful blind date that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Together, they built a home and raised a family, creating a life filled with faith, love, laughter and family traditions. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather and a great-grandfather.
Bob honorably served in the Maryland National Guard for eight years beginning in October 1956, rising to the rank of Sergeant first cook, earning numerous “Honor Mess” distinctions for his skill in the field kitchens. He was known for his ingenuity, pride, and insistence on doing things by the book, earning widespread respect for the care he took in nourishing and caring for his fellow soldiers.
A devout Christian, Bob was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Glen Burnie, MD from 1950-2005, where he served as a crucifer, lay reader, Sunday school teacher as well as a youth leader. He also was a member of the vestry and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. In 2005, Bob moved to Florida and joined St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood, FL where he sang in the choir and also served as a member of the vestry.
His life was defined by hard work, faith and devotion to family. He was a lifelong carpenter beginning his professional career working alongside his father at S.J. Anderson Contractors where he honed his carpentry skills. From there he went on to a long career focused on home improvement, eventually owning his own hardware store and home improvement business.
Bob is fondly remembered for his dedication to family, generous heart, warm smile and witty humor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Rikki Anderson, his son Eric Anderson, his brother George Anderson, his sister Alva Star and sister-in-law Regina Anderson. He is survived by his children Michelle Anderson (Josh Garcia), and Karen Anderson; his grandsons Bradley Servary, Bryan Servary and Nathaniel Anderson; great-grandson Hunter Servary; nieces Jeanne Mazzatenta, Denise Anderson, Lauren Anderson and Donna Starr; Nephews Stephen Mazzatenta, Mike Mazzatenta, James Finnegan and Kevin Finnegan.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, 1 2nd Ave. S.W. (at Crain Hwy) on Saturday, May 16th, from 10 - 11am followed by a Memorial service beginning at 11am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions in Bob’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
