Paul Roger Miller, 88, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 28, 1938, in Lisbon, New Hampshire, Paul carried the spirit of his beloved hometown and the beauty of the White Mountains with him throughout his life.
Paul was a graduate of Keene State College, and went on to become an educator at Hillsboro High School in New Hampshire. His lifelong love of learning and connecting with people remained a defining part of who he was.
Paul proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 14 years and served in The Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career in business development and marketing, where he was respected for his professionalism, dedication, and strong work ethic before retiring after many years.
In retirement, Paul found great joy volunteering at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian Institution, where he served as a docent. He loved sharing history, stories, he could tell you everything about the airplanes, and his enthusiasm for aviation with visitors from around the world.
Paul was a man of many passions. He loved reading, jogging, traveling, and exploring the country, proudly visiting 49 states during his lifetime. Among his favorite destinations was San Diego, where he enjoyed many memorable trips. Yet no place held his heart quite like Lisbon, New Hampshire, and the White Mountains he cherished so deeply. In his younger years, he worked on the ski slopes at Cannon Mountain, an experience he always remembered fondly.
Above all else, Paul treasured his family. He was known for the thoughtful poems he wrote inside cards for every occasion — words his grandchildren will forever hold close to their hearts. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love created countless treasured memories that will endure for generations.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria Miller (née Sasse); his beloved daughters, Paula (Dan) Urton, Marietta (Steve) Barbehenn; caring sons, Fred (Joy) and Mark Miller; cherished grandchildren, Nicole and Justin Miller, Luke, Claire and Paul Barbehenn, Julia Urton; fond brother, George (Joanne) Miller; and caring sister, Mary Jo Miller.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard Miller and Ruth Miller (née Noyes); fond sisters, Beverly Pelletier, Jane McKenzie, and Willy Hilton; and caring brother, David Miller.
Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warmth, devotion to family, adventurous spirit, and gentle way with words leave a lasting legacy that will never be forgotten.
