Julius Callis, Jr Obituary

Julius Clifton Callis, Jr., 91, of Brooklyn Park, Maryland, died March 16 at the Glen Burnie Health and Rehabilitation Center in Glen Burnie. He was born November 23, 1914 in St. Mary's County, Maryland where he lived until he was 22. He then moved to Baltimore and then Brooklyn Park where he lived for 69 years. Julius was employed as a machinist at the Maryland Shipbuilding & Drydock Company in Fairfield, south of Baltimore City. He retired in 1980 after 40 years of service with the company. Julius was a member of the Townsend Avenue Baptist Church (recently named the Andover Baptist Church) in Brooklyn, Maryland. Julius grew up living on the water and enjoyed fishing and crabbing. He served as an engineer on a private yacht for several years before becoming a machinist. After he retired, he enjoyed spending time at his church doing work where needed. He was always working with his hands and was always helping his family, friends and neighbors. He loved to share his faith with others at every opportunity. He was a wonderful witness to his family and friends. Julius was predeceased by one sister, Virginia Eckart. His survivors include his spouse Nettie Lorena after 66 years of marriage; Julius C. Callis, III of Ohio; Nancy L. Betts of Delaware; Gloria J. Laugherty and James T. Callis, both of Brooklyn Park, Maryland; thirteen grandchildren (one deceased); and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
