John Lis

September 19, 1962 — May 2, 2020

John Michael Lis, 57, of Severna Park, passed away at his home on May 2, 2020. John was born in Towson to the late Anna and Jerry Lis. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Towson State University and his Law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. John went on to practice law in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. He loved his hometown teams and watching the Ravens and Orioles play. He also looked forward to watching the Masters every year; golf was probably his favorite sport to watch. John was passionate about music and took up playing guitar over the past year, something he hadn’t done since he was a teenager. Playing the guitar brought him a lot of joy. Music brought him back to his happiest times and soothed his soul. Family was the most important thing in John’s life. Coming from a large family, one of six, adding brothers-in-law, there were also many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew and an abundance of cousins. He also had several friends that were his extended family. John loved spending every minute with his family and friends, overwhelmed by the happiness of being with them. John was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies about WWII, he loved to learn everything about that time period.

John is survived by his loving siblings, Elizabeth Theroux, Rose Lis, Joseph Lis, Anna Lis, Susan Donovan and her husband, Brian; beloved nephews and niece, Jake Donovan, Bill Theroux, Marianne Bayly, her husband, Raymond, and their children, ELayna, Makayla, Lucas and Harley; his former spouse and dear friend, Dorothy Greenwell.
