Jessica Riggs

July 31, 1987 — May 19, 2023

Jessica Marlene Riggs, born July 31st, 1987, in Baltimore Maryland to Barnadette Yvonne Ford and Kermit Wendell Riggs. On May 19th 2023 @ 9:54pm, God sent his final post and Jessica replied.

Jessica was confined to a wheelchair at an early age, which never defined her. She was jointly educated in Anne Arundel County Public School system and home schooled. She ultimately graduated from Meade High School in 2007. She was the teacher of the family and taught several of her younger relatives’ basic math skills and how to read. Jessica was a foodie; her favorite places to eat were Ledo’s and Golden Corral. Her hobbies were crocheting, reading, doing puzzles, playing her Wii, watching reality tv, going to the movies, taking pictures and shopping for random things.

Jessica was the FAMILY FUN COORDINATOR, she planned family game nights, family challenges, birthday parties and vacations. Her favorite place to vacation was Ocean City, Maryland. She loved the beach, boardwalk activities, boardwalk fries and shopping at the Tanger Outlets in Delaware.  Her need to plan her own vacations led her to visit Ocean City or Florida yearly. Which she did from 2009 – 2021 until her health no longer permitted her. Jessica lived a full life and was often spotted on local transit dragging her niece, nephews, cousins, and God children out for a day of fun. She was trendy, she would travel far and wide to find the most unique leggings and accessories, the latest Coach bags, and the best nail salons. She managed her own health care journey, by scheduling her own doctors’ appointments and mobility transportation. Her most memorable moment as a child was visiting Hole in the Wall Gang Camp every summer in New Haven, Connecticut. She would come back home so excited to share her experience with us, sharing campfire stories, camp songs and arts and crafts projects she created.

Jessica leaves to mourn her brother, Damien Ford (Jamela); his daughter, Trinity; and his sons, Davonne, Dasjon, Damien Jr., Jahmil, and Samir Ford. Her grandmother, Myrtle Ford; Uncles Edwin and Henry Giles, Gilbert Franklin, Tyrone Riggs, and Stacy Barnette; Aunts, Fay, Angelique, Shenida and Inez Ford, and Tammy Jones; Great-Great-Aunt, Dorothy Jones; Great-Aunts, Iva Savage, Cecelia Simms, Estell Pearson, Florence Johnson, and Louise Hawkins; Great-Uncles, Arthur Riggs, William Young, James and Charles Contee, Samuel, Calvert and Charles Ford. Preceding her in death was her Father, Kermit Riggs; Mother, Barnadette Ford; Grandfather’s, James Riggs and Lloyd Robert Ford; Grandmother, Ruth Anne Contee-Johnson; Great-Uncles, Robert, Thomas and Duke Hall, Will, John and Allen Contee and James Ford; Great-Aunts, Ernestine Powell, Mary Dawkins, Lilia Johnson, Mildred Savoy, Ethel Contee, Pearl and Brenda Hall, Alice and Marion Spriggs and Elise Watkins.

“The family wishes to extend our gratitude for your condolences and acts of graciousness during our bereavement.”

With all of our hearts, the family would like to thank those loved ones that held a special place in her heart, Rhonda Owens (Sister), the late Adrianna Parker (Favorite Cousin), James Savoy, Rick Savage and Hilton Pulley II (Honorary Uncles), Kianna Parker, and Darius Watkins Jr. (God Children), Kathy, Joesph and Lisa Parker (Teacher and Family), Naja Robbins and April Powell (Best Friends). A Special thanks to the ICU staff at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore - Washington Medical Center and Medstar Harbor Hospital, for all the care and support with our loved one.
