Janice Mcdonald

April 16, 1938 — October 10, 2022

Janice “Jan” M. McDonald, of Millersville, passed away at her home on October 10, 2022.  She was born in Pennsylvania on April 16, 1938 to the late Wilson and Kathryn Noll.  Jan grew up in Fleetwood, PA, where she graduated from Fleetwood Area High School in 1956.  She then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Lebanon Valley College, after which, she graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1961.  Jan was a clinical nursing instructor at Reading Hospital for five years before moving to Maryland in 1967 with her husband.  Jan’s love of nursing and the true caring she showed to others carried on to St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, where she continued her career for an additional 35 years, retiring in 2002.  During this time, Jan also worked at Summit Nursing Home.

Jan’s passion for helping others showed in her tireless volunteer work.  Jan volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 24 years and over 1,400 hours, delivering meals to those in need.  She was also a member of the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Advisory Council, where she represented the Glen Burnie site.  She also volunteered for Partners in Care for 15 years, providing transportation and comfort for older adults.  In addition to her charity work, Jan volunteered at the Pascal Senior Center at the front desk, greeting the members and visitors with a friendly smile.  She touched the lives of many with her giving spirit.  When Jan was not working or volunteering, she loved to travel and attend Southern Gospel concerts with her husband, and create beautiful ceramics and other crafts with her friends.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Jack McDonald; her beloved children, Beth Thompson (husband Tommy) and Shawn McDonald (children Christopher and Megan); her nephews Eric Noll (wife, Georgiana and daughters, Alexandra and Meredith) and Douglas Noll (wife, Tamiko and son, Wilson).  Her brother, Clair Noll, and sister in law, Jeanne, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 16th, at 1 PM at Pasadena Assembly of God, 206 Pleasantview Avenue, Pasadena, MD 21122. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Janice McDonald can be made to ALS Research at Johns Hopkins: www.packardcenter.org/donate
