Hiroko Simmons

November 23, 1928 — December 31, 2020

Hiroko Simmons, 92, of Severn, MD went Home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2020 after a long journey with dementia. She was born in Kyoto, Japan to the late Kiyoichi and Miki (maiden name Kishi) Sato. She was a member of Ferndale United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and watching Japanese television. She also enjoyed food (especially sushi!) and going out to eat. Before retiring, Hiroko worked as a seamstress at places including Robert Hall and Jos. A Bank. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Arthur; and her brothers, Hideo and Eiichi Sato and sister Akiko.

Hiroko is survived by her devoted daughter, Patty Griffin and her husband, Ronnie; cherished grandsons, Willie and John; loving niece, Tomoko and husband Paul Casey; nephews Jun and wife Jasmina Sato; Nobuhiko and wife Hiromi Sato; Bobby and wife Maria Gray; and sister in law Christine Simmons. She also leaves behind her grand dogs, Baci, Tanner and Sophie.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy), on Wednesday, Jan. 6th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be private for immediate family with a live stream webcast for extended family and friends to follow on Thursday, beginning at 10 AM EST. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are only allowing 40 people inside the funeral home at one time and requiring masks for all visitors.  We kindly ask that you please keep your visit brief, as there may be people waiting to enter the funeral home.
