Gregory Vaughan

March 3, 1953 — July 25, 2022

Glen Burnie

Gregory Mitchell Vaughan (69), son of George R. Vaughan and the late Eloise Vaughan, passed away on July 25 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center following a brief illness.  In addition to his father, he leaves behind six brothers and sisters: Steven (Karen) Vaughan, Susan (Geoffrey) Kahn, Julia (Kenneth) Donovan, John (Ingrid) Vaughan, Thomas (Carol) Vaughan, and Christopher Vaughan.  He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.

Greg grew up in Linthicum, Maryland the eldest of seven children, and was a celebrated student and athlete.   As a ten-year old, he read the entire Junior Encyclopedia Britannica from A to Z, and remembered literally all of it.   Afterward, if anyone wanted to know, for example, how many moons Jupiter has, they asked him.  Before there was Google, there was Greg.  He was the first in a long line of Vaughan men to attend Mt. St. Joseph High School in Baltimore.  He then earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Brown University.  Greg had a remarkable facility with foreign languages.

Beginning in his early twenties, Greg lived with mental illness.  Despite significant challenges, he remained consistently positive, highly social, and eternally devoted to his family.  He never lost his 100-watt smile.  With the support of his family and Omni House of Glen Burnie, Maryland, Greg was independent and productive.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a "Time of Fellowship & Remembrance" at Our Lady of Angels Church from 10:30 am till the start of the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in memory of Greg’s life at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228 (at Charlestown Senior Retirement Center) on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 am.
