Gregory Lloyd Mitchell, 76, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
Born in Carbondale, Illinois, Greg was the beloved son of the late Lloyd and Thelma Mitchell. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a deep commitment to serving others, guided by his faith, compassion, and generous spirit.
Greg proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before pursuing a career in nursing. As a registered nurse, he dedicated himself to caring for those in need and found great fulfillment in humanitarian medical missions, particularly his work in Mexico. His passion for helping others extended far beyond his profession and touched countless lives throughout the years.
A man of strong faith, Greg was actively involved in his church community and especially enjoyed singing in the choir. He embraced opportunities to serve both locally and abroad through mission work, combining his love of travel with his desire to make a difference in the lives of others. His travels took him to many parts of the world, enriching his life and broadening his perspective.
Greg and his wife, Irmeli were also known for their warm hospitality. They opened their home to exchange students from Finland, forming lasting friendships and developing a deep appreciation for his wife’s Finnish culture. He cherished these connections and the relationships they brought into his life.
Above all, Greg was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend. He treasured time spent with his family, enjoyed traveling, and could often be found on the golf course pursuing one of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sirkka Irmeli Mitchell; and his sister, Melba Mitchell.
Greg is survived by his loving sons, Daniel Brian Mitchell, Timothy Ryan Mitchell and his wife, Lisa; and his cherished grandsons, Ryan and Mason.
