Obituary

On July 27th, 2022, Gloria Ruth Bessicks changed her permanent address to Heaven. Gloria was born on February 4th, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Ruth Cook and Joshua Bessicks Sr.

Gloria’s Christian life began at John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served as an Usher, Administrative Counsel President, President of the Usher Board and served on various other committees.  In later years, she joined Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church and became a devoted member, attending Bible study and serving as the Vice President of the nominations committee. Gloria was educated in the Baltimore Public School system. She worked various jobs before she became employed with Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman, she retired in 2008 after over 40 years of service. During her time at Westinghouse, she worked in a sterile environment fusing what we know today as “microchips”.

Gloria married Sterlond Boone, and from this union they shared two daughters: Tawonda Chase and Sharise Boone. Gloria was an avid seamstress who loved to sew outfits for family members and friends.  She also loved reading, bowling, traveling and taking photos in her spare time. Gloria loved attending bible study, watching her Soap Operas and on Sunday afternoons, you could find her watching her beloved San Francisco 49ers.  She would open her home to anyone who needed sheltering.  Gloria had a way of making everyone feel special, all the children from church knew she always had candy in her pocketbook to give out to keep them quiet during service. Gloria always made sure all of her nieces, nephews and any children she knew had gifts to open on Christmas morning.  She was a believer in taking care of all of God’s children and did this by contributing to various children’s organizations and charities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Margo Williams, Jacquelyn R. Marshall and Larry Bessicks; and one special friend, Wayne Holland.  Gloria leaves behind two daughters, Tawonda and Sharise; one grandson, William; two granddaughters, Danielle and Brittany; and five great-grandchildren; Jayden, Ian, Cheyenne, Rio, and Cameron. Gloria also leaves to cherish her memory: her companion, Sterlond Boone and his son, Cory; siblings, Deborah Dailey, Sharlene Savage (Ron), Sharon Kemplin (Jimmy), Vlasta McCoy (Danny) and Niecy Davis, Donald Bessicks (Peggie), Joshua Bessicks, Carl Brown (Pat) and Eddie Bessicks (Janet); sister-in-law, Marguerite Bessicks, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church, 429 Asbury Drive, Severna Park, MD 21146, on Friday, August 5th, from 10 to 11 AM. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn Park.
