Gerald "Jerry" Smith Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” E. Smith, age 91, of Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026. Born in March 1935, Jerry lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought him happiness.

Jerry was the beloved husband of Maureen Smith, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a strong and loving family that remained the center of his world throughout his life. He was a proud and caring father to Robert and his wife Kristin Smith, Patrick and his wife Brigitte Smith, and Christopher and his wife Catherine Vass. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Colleen Duggan, Brendan Smith, Allison Smith, Carson Smith, Keenan Smith and Cole Smith. He was the proud Grandgreat of six great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by one brother, John Smith and his parents, Burnace and Agnes Smith.

A proud veteran, Jerry served four years in the United States Army. He remained committed to supporting fellow veterans throughout his life.  His sense of camaraderie and service extended into his community.  He was a member of the Pascal Senior Center for many years after his retirement of 40 years from the James Cassidy Company.

Jerry had a lifelong love of sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Baltimore Orioles. He also enjoyed reading, playing cards and following the stock market, always keeping a curious and engaged mind. In his earlier years, he found great joy in playing pool and was honored as the Senior Player Champion of Anne Arundel County—a testament to both his skill and competitive spirit.

Above all, Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family. He found his greatest pride and purpose in the lives of those he loved, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
