Franklin Wayne Goss

October 28, 1942 — January 20, 2022

Franklin (Frank)Wayne Goss, 79, of Millersville, Maryland, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022, after a short bout of cancer.  He was the loving husband of Elva Elaine (Harsh) Goss, whom he married in 1983.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1942 to the late Author and Hazel Goss, Frank grew up in Belen, New Mexico.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett in 1987, and Kenneth in 1999.

Frank is survived by children and their families; daughter Victoria (Vicki) Givens (Justin), Ryan, Leah, and Noah of League City, Texas; son Jeffrey Goss (Kristina), Logan, and McKinley of Yukon, Oklahoma; and daughter Courtney Heath, Dylan, Chloe, and Brianna of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and great-granddaughter, Kalani King.

Frank graduated from Belen High School in 1960 as salutatorian.  He played the baritone horn in the school band for many years.

In 1964, Frank graduated from New Mexico State University in Los Cruces with an electrical engineering degree.

Frank came east to work at Bell Labs in New Jersey.  Close by was New York University which Frank attended and where he earned his Master’s Degree.

Frank also attended Georgetown University and earned credits toward a doctorate degree.  In 2001, Frank attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) at Ft. McNair in Washington, DC.

After having taken ROTC in college, Frank served two years in the Army, mostly at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Frank was recently honored at work for over 55 years of service to the federal government – over 50 years at N.S.A.  He had not retired.

Frank was a member of Glen Burnie Baptist Church where he met Elva and where he served on many committees.   He particularly enjoyed ushering.

Frank had many hobbies.  He was a numismatist and belonged to several clubs – CCC, BCC, and MNA.  He was also a lapidary, belonging to the PLG.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.

Frank loved cookies, cherry pie, country music, NASCAR, and the Washington Football Team.  When he was younger, he enjoyed volksmarching and rock collecting.

Frank was a plain and quiet person, who came alive around his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed the annual vacation trips to visit them.

Frank would drown you in minutia if you asked for specific driving directions – which lane to get in, up a hill, where speed cameras were, etc.  He was very detailed.
