Barbara Lee Thornton, 78, of Linthicum, passed away on June 30, 2026.
Born in Baltimore and a lifelong Marylander, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Viola and Alvin T. Darr Sr.
After graduating from Severna Park High School in 1965, Barbara became a licensed beautician. She spent most of her career in health care at Mercy Medical Center, retiring as an executive assistant in 2017. Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing Bingo, reading on the porch, tending to her garden, going to the beach, celebrating holidays and birthdays, and cheering on her favorite teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.
Above all else, Barbara treasured the time she spent with her family. She was especially close to, and preceded in death by, Edward and Jesse Dobson (uncle and aunt) and Joann Wright (cousin). She also was preceded in death by her siblings, Terry A. Moxley and Alvin T. Darr Jr.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Heather Thornton and Matthew Thornton (wife, Alissa); cherished granddaughter, Elena Thornton; her former husband and friend of many years, Thomas Thornton; her sister, Dianna Zimmerman (husband, Dennis); and several beloved nieces and nephews.
