Alyce Ann Flemming passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and devotion to her family and friends. She was 89 years old.
Born March 1, 1937 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Alyce Ann (nicknamed Zane growing up) was the beloved daughter of the late Vera and Byron Hughes. Following her father’s passion for understanding people and helping them to become contributing members of a community, she graduated with a degree in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. It was there that she met the love of her life, Keith F. Flemming.
Throughout her life Alyce served others in a variety of roles including working as a social worker, librarian, and airline reservations agent. She was deeply involved in her community and generously gave her time supporting education as both an advocate for the public school system and a volunteer student aide. She was a major supporter to several organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Alyce loved traveling to new places and repeat trips as well (Shenandoah, VA, Waupaca, WI and Ocean City, MD), spent many weekends tent trailer camping, and especially enjoyed exploring the outdoors – a love that she instilled in all her children & grandchildren.
A favorite pastime for Alyce was playing tennis and even took up golf with Keith in later years. She was a good bowler and had many fun times attending tournaments throughout the country. She also treasured times spent playing bridge, board games and doing puzzles, the more people involved the merrier! Later in life she made wonderful friends through her weekly “Glen Burnie McDonalds” group. Alyce cherished the many memories she made with family and friends throughout her life.
Alyce and Keith shared 45 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, partnership, and family. Their enduring bond remained one of the defining blessings of Alyce's life until Keith's passing in 2003.
Above all, Alyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her loving children; Kathleen McAllister (George Kreshock), Michael Flemming (Lisa), James Flemming (Laurie), Susan Flemming, and Brian Flemming (Christine Aquino); her grandchildren Sean McAllister (Jackie), Anna McCullough (Seth), Ryan Flemming, Tyler Flemming (Taylor), Andrew Flemming, Christopher Flemming (Caroline), Katie Flemming; her great-grandchildren Charlotte Flemming, Sawyer McCullough; and her dear brother, Dick Hughes.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Keith F. Flemming; her parents, Vera and Byron Hughes; and her siblings, John Hughes and Margaret Sharpe.
