Obituary

Albert “Al” G. Willinghan, 82, passed away on December 31, 2020 following a long battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia (a rare form of dementia) and complications from COVID-19.  He was born in Baltimore, Maryland.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Isabelle Cave Willinghan, and parents Albert T. Willinghan and Margaret V. Mitchell.  He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Willinghan and his wife Deborah Horne, one daughter, Robin Oliver and her husband John Oliver, and two grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley.

Al served in the Navy for four years as a Gun Control Technician on a Navy destroyer.  He loved the Navy, but departed after four years of service because he did not want to be apart from his wife, Isabelle, who was the love of his life.  After leaving the Navy he went to work at the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade Maryland for 34 years.

Al loved to travel, spend time in Ocean City, kayak, play the organ, and work 3D puzzles.  He especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and grand-critters.  He was a wonderful dad and grandfather, had a great sense of humor, was thoughtful, intelligent, and very caring.  He will be greatly missed!

Al’s family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Rosewood Village Hollymead and Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville Virginia.  Their compassion not only helped Al, but also his family.

A private ceremony will be held by the family and interment will be at the Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Crownsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and American Heart Association.
