On Friday, October 21, 2022, William Richard Via passed away at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore at the age of 73. Bill, as he was better known, was born on October 9, 1949, in Laurel Branch, West Virginia, to the late Alice and Carson Via. He graduated from Dundalk High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, where he graduated second in his class. Bill took that knowledge and worked for many years at Westinghouse and then for Northrop Grumman. Bill was a member of the National Speleological Society (life member) and the National Association for Amateur Radio. He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Emma. And he also enjoyed Sci-Fi movies (especially Star Trek), history (especially WWII), rock music (especially Pink Floyd), and rock collecting. He was also very proud of his Viking heritage.
Bill was predeceased by his devoted wife, Louann L. Via, and his dear brother, Michael E. Via. He is survived by his loving son, Joseph E. Kelly and his wife, Denise; his cherished granddaughter, Emma; and his beloved nieces, Karen (Dean) Noggle and Linda (Bob) Johnston.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. S. W. (at Crain Hwy) on Saturday, October 29th, from 2-4 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to BARCS at wwww.barcs.org
