Tracey Lee Sponsler, 51, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on August 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 16, 1973, Tracey attended Old Mill High School and Anne Arundel Community College. She spent over 22 years employed with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, first as a teacher’s assistant at Ruth Parker Eason, then finishing her career as the counseling secretary at Arundel High School.
Tracey loved volunteering at the annual Anne Arundel County Homeless Resource Day. An active member of Ferndale United Methodist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving on several committees. She cherished her time with her children. She enrolled her son, Greyson, in a public library program, “1000 Books Before Kindergarten”, completing that program and logging every number and title in a journal as a cherished keepsake for him. Tracey was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Calloway; father, Robert Watson; and her son, Gage.
Tracey is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce; cherished sons, Matthew Spicer and Greyson Brashears; loving mother, Sharon Williams (Scott); and her dear siblings, Roberta Padgett (Tony), Jack Padgett (Karen) and Daniel Padgett. She will also be missed by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her exemplary work ethic. She had a unique ability to connect, in a meaningful way, with the students who needed that connection the most. Tracey was always ready to help a coworker in need and loved serving the students. She enjoyed visiting the Smoky Mountains and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim in 2012. She also enjoyed her annual family vacation to Ocean City.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, on Thursday, August 7th, from 10 am – 12 pm, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association, www.als.org, or to the Anne Arundel County Animal Shelter in Millersville, https://www.aacounty.org/animal-services, where she rescued many animals.
