Rita Mary Brown, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland, at the age of 95.
Born on January 11, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland, Rita brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered throughout her extraordinary life.
A devoted wife to her husband, John "Jack" Brown, Jr., for an incredible 73 years, Rita's love story with Jack was an inspiring testament to the power of companionship, commitment, and shared dreams. Throughout their life together, they cultivated a family that was the heart of Rita's existence.
She is survived by her son, Gery Brown, and his wife, Karen; her daughters, Colleen Berrich and her husband, Jim, and Michelle Birsner and her husband, Fred. Rita's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Michael Cumming (Amy), Christopher Brown (Melissa), Thomas Berrich, Chris Berrich (Kim), Doug Berrich (Aislinn), Lindsay Schollian (Jerimiah), Briana Stairiker (Will), Tara Bright (Jeff) and Jessica Watts (Alex); as well as her 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
Rita was born into a loving family, the daughter of Veronica and Casimir Kaminski, and was predeceased by siblings, Casmir, Elvina, Donald, Robert, Phillip; her first born, Michael Brown, and survived by brother, Richard. Rita's expansive family also includes numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom carry a piece of her spirit in their hearts.
A woman of many interests, Rita found joy in activities such as ice skating, roller skating, skiing, gardening, camping, baking, and cooking. Her passion for life was evident in her frequent trips to the beach, where she created countless memories with her family. Most importantly, Rita treasured her family above all else, considering them to be the center of her universe.
Rita was not only a devoted homemaker but also a beacon of service within her community. She took immense pride in her time as a Girl Scout leader, dedicating her energy to nurturing the next generation. Her involvement with the Telephone Pioneers of America showcased her commitment to giving back, as she found fulfillment in helping others and fostering connections.
As we gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Rita Mary Brown, there will be opportunities for family and friends to come together and honor her memory. Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A. in Glen Burnie, MD, on June 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A special Celebration of Life service will take place the following day, June 30, 2025, starting at 10:30 AM.
Rita's remarkable journey on this earth has left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her. She will be forever missed but never forgotten, living on in the stories we share, the lessons she taught us, and the love that binds us together.
