Michael D. Benelli, 92, of Millersville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael Vincent Benelli and Margaret Benelli. He was a devout member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Gail M. Benelli.
He is survived by his beloved children, Eve Walsh and her husband, Thomas, and Michael J. Benelli; cherished grandchildren, Danielle and Jordan Walsh; loving step-grandson, Thomas H. Walsh IV, and his wife, Teresa. Michael Benelli enlisted in the US Army at 17 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University. Michael went on to work for the US Department of Defense for 36 years. After retirement, Michael indulged his passion for American history, serving as a tour guide for the Colonial Annapolis Walking Tour for over 20 years, educating visitors on the history of the city while dressed in period-accurate colonial attire. Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by many.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue S, Millersville, MD 21108, on Tuesday, June 11th, at 11 a.m. A gathering of friends and family will be held prior to the burial from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
