Meta Basukumbi

Meta Alphonsine Basukumbi "Mamu" died in her daughter’s home on August 18, 2021, in Glen Burnie, MD due to complications following pancreatic cancer. She was 71.

Mamu was born on July 04, 1950, in Ilebo, Kasai, DR Congo to her parents, Andre Basukumbi and Anastasie Bampendi. She studied at the Primary and Secondary School of Ilebo. She married Prophet Antoine Tshiyombo Bakwalufu. They moved to Kinshasa where they continued their lives together and Mamu was a businesswoman. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in October 1983.

She moved to the United States in 2001 and dedicated her remaining time to educating and caring for her grandchildren, as well as attending prayer circles at her local church.

Mamu was a joyful and supportive grandmother with a passion for fashion, always dressed up to impress and very happy person. She was very known at church with her happy mood and dancing during praise and worship services. Inspiring joy, faith, hope, love, and dedication in others was her life-long goal.

Mamu is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julienne Bakwalufu and Antoine Wamulumba of Glen Burnie, MD; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and her siblings.

Mamu will be buried in a private ceremony on August 30th, 2021. A viewing will take place on August 29th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. at Singleton Funeral Home. Burial will take place on August 30th at 1:00 pm at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mamu's life.
