Marvin "Bert" Payton, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Walter and Ellen Mae Payton, passed away at his home on September 11, 2025, at the age of 78.
Bert served his country with honor, dedicating twenty years to the Army, before transitioning into a fulfilling career with the Coast Guard Yard, where he worked as an ordnance mechanic for an impressive twenty-six years. His commitment to service and his country was a source of pride not just for himself but for those who loved him.
A devoted family man, Bert is survived by his devoted wife of fourteen years, Constance F. Payton; loving sons, Joseph and Bryan Payton; beloved step-children, Angela Wagner, Christopher Hoagland, Pauline Hoagland, Michael Hoagland, and Jacquelyn Hoagland-Schopf. Bert was also a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
An avid fan of the Ravens and Orioles, Bert would light up with excitement during games, cheering on his teams with relentless enthusiasm. He also had a deep love for music, spending many enjoyable hours playing guitar, bringing harmony into his home and sharing joy with those around him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A., Glen Burnie. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, 1 PM, in the funeral home chapel.
