Kathryn Ann Carr

May 22, 1932 — September 26, 2024

It is with tears but peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Kathryn (Kitty) Ann Carr (nee Ryan) (92) on September 26, 2024, after a long illness. Kitty was born in Elmira, New York on May 22, 1932, to Veronica and William Ryan. She was the middle child of three daughters, Veronica (Ronnie) Kirklighter (nee Ryan), her older sister, and Jane (Jane-o) Agan (nee Ryan), her younger sister. Kitty met and married a “local Elmira boy”, George Carr, and they had two sons, Timothy and Steven. George and Kitty settled with their boys in the Baltimore/Washington DC area. She and George loved to travel and together saw many places in the world. After his passing, Kitty continued to travel on her own with tours to Africa, the Holy Land and Lourdes. The family lived overseas for several years in Japan where the boys attended Zama High School located on the Zama US military base in Kanagawa Prefecture. Many lasting friendships and memories were made during these years abroad. Both Kitty and George were employed by the US National Security Agency, so talk at the dinner table was never about their workday! After Kitty retired, she donated much of her time and resources to Catholic-based charities; a model of care and concern for others that showed through her prayers and actions. Mom was a kind, loving, spiritual, sometimes impish, but always incredibly generous person. She adored her family, and is survived by her sister, Ronnie Kirklighter; brother-in-law, Daniel Agan; sons, Timothy Carr (and Kathy), Steven Carr (and Donna); grandson, Ryan Carr (and Catherine); great grandchildren, Michael and Noah Carr; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. We will greatly miss her, but we know the party in Heaven has already begun.

Our family thanks you for your prayers and condolences. We also thank the staff members who provided loving care during the four and a half years Mom called Vantage Point in Columbia, Maryland her home.

In honor of Kitty’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider donations to either Vantage Point or Gilchrist Hospice Services by visiting:
