Joyce H. Parkinson, passed away on April 26, 2024, in Millersville, Maryland.

Born on June 28, 1926, in Mt. Clinton, Virginia, to the late Clymer and Virginia Heatwole. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Bridgewater College in 1946, laying a strong foundation for a fulfilling career shaping the future generation.

Joyce spent 30 years in a career of teaching. She spent most of those years teaching at Southgate Elementary School from which she returned. She developed a lifelong friendship with many of her co-workers.

Joyce's vibrant spirit and genuine warmth endeared her to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.  Beyond her professional achievements, she found solace in simple pleasures such as being an avid reader, exploring new destinations through travel, and above all, cherishing moments with her beloved family.

In her departure from this world, Joyce leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished by her surviving family: daughters - Jill Snellings, Jan Gavrilenkowsky, and Jeni Gartelman; grandchildren - Nichole Dugger, Jessica Gavrilenkowsky, Misty Welsch, and Sara Dary; as well as 10 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.  Her memory will also be kept alive by numerous extended family members and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and grace.

In eternal rest now, but forever alive in the hearts of those who knew her best, Joyce was predeceased by her devoted husband, John "Jack" Parkinson, and grandsons Douglas Snellings and Robbie Gartelman.  She is also reunited in peace with her siblings, Janet Mills, Neil Heatwole, and Carter Heatwole.

A Visitation in honor of Joyce will be held on April 30th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A. in Glen Burnie.  A Celebration of Life ceremony will follow on May 1st, starting at 10:00 AM, at the same location as family and friends gather to commemorate a life well-lived.  Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.

Joyce H. Parkinson's unwavering dedication to education and profound love for family will forever remain etched in the hearts of those she touched.  May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy lives on through the countless lives she influenced during her time on this earth.
