Jerome C. Korzybski

January 18, 1948 — January 5, 2024

Jerome “Jerry” Korzybski, 75, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, was greeted by the Lord and loved ones to Heavenly Paradise on January 5, 2024.

Jerry was born in Baltimore, Maryland, at 10:43 a.m. on January 18, 1948, to his loving parents, Agnes and Constantine Korzybski, who absolutely adored their only child.

In his youth, he enjoyed many things such as traveling, Boy Scouts, television, and playing with his best buddies and cousins in the huge field across from his family home.

In his teen years, he loved the radio (operating his own station in his mom’s basement, unknowingly), music, and traveling. One of his favorite trips was to California to spend time with his cousins and enjoy the great beaches. He enjoyed films, television (his two favorites were the Twilight Zone and the Day the Earth Stood Still), and photography, but mostly meeting the love of his life, Gloria on a blind date.

Jerry attended City College of Baltimore, Maryland, where he would graduate then later obtain an Associate of Art’s degree from Anne Arundel Community College. He would sign up voluntarily to proudly serve during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, and the Naval Reserves from 1968 to 1972. He would also marry that love of his life on a hot summer day on June 8, 1968.

During his lifetime he would be a Radio Disc Jockey (he had the most amazing voice), an employee in the Communications Department at two colleges, a producer of cable television shows and voiceovers, an actor in small parts in various films, and eventually a Special Projects Manager at the Mass Transit Administration where he would retire.

He lived a lifetime of loving some of his favorite things, including travel with his daughters and wife, laughing whole heartedly at John Candy movies (“you’re going the wrong way”, was a favorite line from his favorite movie Planes Trains and Automobiles), his silver Toyota Avalon, crab cakes and eggplant parmigiana, the beach where he would lift his girls and jump the waves, summer, swimming, trips to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for an Amish sweet treat, Civil War memorabilia, stars autographs, helping his girls with a term paper, math problem or making sure we had everything we wanted or needed no matter what.

The things that he cherished and loved the most with all his heart, soul and being were being a dad to his daughters, Marilyn and Sherry, a husband to his wife Gloria, being Pop Pop to his grandchildren Remy, Veronika, and Vanessa, his extended family and friends, and his love for the Lord.

He will best be remembered as a man of faith, always helping others by volunteering, lending an ear or some great advice, reassurance that everything will be “OK”, comforting words of encouragement, concern, and praise, his huge bear hugs, wiping tears away from your face, his laughter and ability to make you laugh. His heart was bigger than imaginable.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Agnes and Constantine Korzybski, and survived by his wife Gloria Korzybski, his daughters, Sherry Korzybski and Marilyn Koncewicz, grandchildren Remy, Veronika, and Vanessa Koncewicz, son-in-laws Remy Koncewicz and Mark Nooney, his extended family on his mothers and father’s side, and his many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org/, Disabled American Veterans, https://www.dav.org/ or Feed the Children, https://www.feedthechildren.org/, would be greatly appreciated.
