Janie Mae Shue Canupp, a beloved figure in the lives of many, passed away on November 4, 2025, in Severna Park, Maryland. Born in North Carolina on September 21, 1925, Janie lived a vibrant and fulfilling life that spanned a century.
Janie enjoyed a distinguished career as an engineer, dedicating 44 years of her professional life to Westinghouse, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and peers. Her passion for her work was reflected in her commitment and expertise, solidifying her place in the history of her field.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janie was known for her love of gardening, cooking, and reading. She found joy in quilting and spent many cherished afternoons in nature, soaking in the beauty surrounding her. These hobbies were not just pastimes but reflections of her nurturing spirit and creativity. Additionally, she was a proud member of Elvaton Baptist Church, where she found community and fellowship, eagerly attending services and events.
Janie is survived by her daughter, Melenie Maule (John); daughter-in-law, Marsha Canupp; grandchildren, Patty Valencia and Kristeena Smallwood; and great-grandchildren, DJ, Angela, Drew, Trinity, and Megan. She also leaves behind great-great-grandchildren Alexis, Addison, and Nic. This loving family, along with many friends and community members, will fondly remember Janie's kindness, warmth, and zest for life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry D. and Bessie V. Shue, her devoted husband, Marion H. "Ace" Canupp, her son, Eddie Canupp, and her siblings. Janie’s legacy will undoubtedly persist through the memories shared by those she loved and who loved her in return. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends as they celebrate the remarkable life she led.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Monday, November 10th from 11:00-1:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
