James R. Williford

January 13, 1939 — February 14, 2024

James Ronal Williford, 85, of Brooklyn Park, passed away on February 14, 2024.  James was born in Baltimore to the late Agnes and Troy Williford.   He graduated from Southern High School in 1957, and went on to work as a maintenance mechanic at several places, finishing out his career with Carr-Lowery Glass.  He was a member of the Brooklyn Park Jaycees and his softball talents earned him a spot in the Maryland Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.  Because of his speed, James played in the outfield up until the age of 74.  He also enjoyed listening to music – especially 50’s and 60’s music, helping people with home renovations, and most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Margaret A. Williford; his loving children, Brent Williford and Kim (Mark) Shimonkevitz; beloved grandsons, Chris (Becky) Shimonkevitz, Brent (Bre) Williford Jr., Braden Williford, and Jeremiah Brown; cherished great-grandchildren, Victoria Williford and Ryder Brown; dear sister-in-law, Mary Adams; and his brother.   He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law, Roni Williford, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.  James was predeceased by his adored granddaughter, Victoria Shimonkevitz and five siblings.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Monday, February 19th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, February 20th, at 10 AM, in the funeral home chapel.  Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.  Please feel free to wear your favorite team gear in honor of James and his love of sports.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James’ name may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake at www.hospicechesapeake.org    OR  Brooklyn Community United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Avenue, Brooklyn, MD 21225.
