James William Dunlop

October 7, 1934 — March 16, 2024

James William Dunlop, a dedicated steelworker for Bethlehem Sparrows Point for 40 years, has sadly passed away at the age 89.  Born in Buffalo, New York, on October 7, 1934, James was a man of great integrity and warmth, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

After his serving in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 as a Seaman Apprentice, James devoted himself to his career in steel working, where his strong work ethic and passion shone through every project he undertook.  He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his kind and compassionate nature towards all those around him.

Outside of his work, James found solace and joy in various hobbies and interests.  He had a deep love for music, especially playing the guitar, and shared this passion with many family members and friends whom he influenced to take up the instrument. In addition to music, James enjoyed golfing and exploring new places, with Ireland holding a special place in his heart.

James was predeceased by his loving wife, Vershia Alice Dunlop, his cherished children, James Allen Cunningham, Theodore Michael Cunningham, Brenda Lynn Cunningham, as well as his sister, Jane Dunlop.  He is survived by a host of dear family members and friends, including his children, James Michael "Mickey" Dunlop, Diane Marie Harkum, David Guy Cunningham and Scott Dunlop; as well as, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

A visitation to honor and remember James will be held at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A., in Glen Burnie on Sunday, March 24th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life service will take place on Monday March 25th, starting at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.

James William Dunlop will forever be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering dedication to his craft, and the love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace knowing that he was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
