George Retired)

On November 12, 2005 Mr. George D. Fowler, Jr. passed away at the Genesis Eldercare in Severna Park after complications from a brief illness. He was 81 years old. Mr. Fowler was a devoted husband to the late Pearl Fowler, a beloved father to Rev. Dr. Michael J. Fowler, Bonnie Abrashoff, and Patricia Kelm. He was a dear brother to the late Rear Admiral William S. Stuart, and the late Captain Richard S. Stuart. He was the cherished grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 6.

Mr. Fowler served in the United States Air Force for twenty years. He retired in 1963 with the rank of Captain. He continued his career as a civilian worker in the Department of Defense for 30 years. Born on June 24, 1924 in Bluefield, West Virginia, George moved to Glen Burnie 1n 1959 where he resided for 46 years. Captain George Fowler was a highly decorated serviceman and a proud patriot. He will be laid to rest with his wife and fellow patriots at Arlington National Cemetery on January 5, 2006 at 1500 hours.

Mr. Fowler served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, was the Organizer and President of the Anne Arundel Tennis Association, President of the MD Tennis Association, Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Association, President of the NSA Tennis Association, President of the NSA Bowling Association, President MD State Junior Bowling Association, Executive Vice President Greater Baltimore Bowling Association, Member of the Greater Baltimore Bowling Association Hall of Fame and Captain of the Mid-Atlantic Intersectional Men's 65 Tennis Team. In addition to bowling and tennis, Mr. Fowler also enjoyed computers and crossword puzzles and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

His military awards included: Air Medal (for 11 combat mission in Europe), Army Commendation Medal (for helping with a successful mission), Good Conduct Medal with three knots, American Theatre Service Medal, European Theatre Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters (Battles: Central Europe, Ardennes, Rhine), World War II Victory Medal, Pacific Theatre Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Award w/4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Technicians Patch, Expert Rifleman Medal, Carbine Bar, Aerial Gunners Wings and Air Crew Wings.
