Gail Lee Johnston, 87, of Glen Burnie, MD, born in Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Gail was a woman of Christian faith as a Seventh-Day Adventist and had an unwavering love for her family. She retired from Northrop Grumman after 27 years of dedicated service as an electronics technician.
Gail’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family. She is survived by her beloved children: Anita Tompkins and son-in-law Gary Tompkins, Carleen Perez, and Robert Johnston; her cherished brother, Carl Swanson Jr.; and sister, Dorothy Wilkes; dear sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda Swanson and William Wilkes. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jennifer Robinette, Leah Rust, Jennifer, Amy and Terence Perez Jr., Christina Cannon, Brendan Tompkins, Kevin Williams, and Stacie Johnston. Her legacy continues in her great-grandchildren: Joyus, Victorious, and Justus Robinette; Cadence Leeland; Zachary Rust; Aubrey Dillon; Jameson Cannon; Brayden Perez; Orion and Alayna Klotz; Sadie LaRock and Jaxon Curry. She also leaves behind many others who were blessed by her presence.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Johnston Sr.; precious son, Edward Johnston Jr.; parents, Anita and Carl Swanson Sr.; and brother, Danny Swanson.
Gail had a strong will and extraordinary zest for life. She loved to travel and take in all of God’s beautiful creations. She also had a green thumb for houseplants and a deep compassion for animals, especially her cats and bird of 35 years. In addition, Gail loved to sing in her church choir and enjoyed weekly bible study with her family. Her family will especially remember her joyful spirit hosting Christmas Eve gatherings, her unparalleled sense of humor, and the way she would never forget a birthday.
