Frances "Fran" Backus

Frances M. Backus (nee Hayden), 91 of Crofton,Maryland, passed away on February 25, 2022.  Frances was born on January 2, 1931 in Washington DC, to the late Gerald and Mary Hayden.  She graduated from Hyattsville High School in 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard Backus, son-in-law Daniel R. Kuczinski and grandson Ryan M. Kuczinski.  Frances is survived by her children Richard G. Backus, wife Debra; Christine A. Kuczinski;  Catherine M. Medford, husband Daniel; and Kenneth E. Backus.  She is also survived by grandchildren: Joshua Kuczinski, Jacqueline Pilkerton and Bradley Medford and great grandchildren: Hailie Kuczinski, Sophie Pilkerton and Henry Pilkerton and her brother, Charles Hayden, wife Lark.

Frances worked at the Maryland Department of Transportation until she retired.  All the while, she lovingly took care of her elderly parents and her aunt.  After her children were married she kept them close with weekly Sunday dinners.  Holidays were always joyous surrounded by her husband, parents, her children, their spouses, and grandchildren.  All were loved and welcomed.

She was an avid reader but her greatest love was her close family and cherished friends, some of whom were life-long friends from elementary school and her early dating years. We will miss this beautiful, wonderful, kind-spirited and loving woman forever.

Frances had an unwavering faith in God through her life’s journey.  Now she will live in ever-lasting peace and love.
