Eleanor S. Kelly of Davidsonville, MD passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025 at the age of 96. Ellie, as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her husband, Walt, her son Scott and her siblings Bill and Judy. She is survived by her two daughters Katherine Edwards and Barbara Hubbard (Larry); three grandchildren Blake Edwards, Scott Edwards, and Zachary Hubbard; 2 step grandchildren Christopher Hubbard and Jennifer H Dorr; and 6 great grandchildren and many loving friends. Ellie loved her family and playing golf.
Ellie was born in Parkersburg, WV but after grade school moved to Takoma Park, MD where she was raised in a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) community. By high school she and her best friend started venturing outside of the community. After graduation she worked for a dentist that was recently discharged from the army, Walt. Walt had also grown up in a SDA community but was stepping away. Ellie decided to step away with him.
Shortly after, Ellie married Walt and moved to Silver Spring where they started their family. They bonded with several couples in their new neighborhood and soon were enjoying dinner parties where they would take turns hosting a foreign themed meal. All in attendance at these parties would dress in that foreign themed attire. Ellie taught herself how to cook the cuisine and create/sew their outfits while Walt researched and obtained the suitable music for his reel-to-reel and drinks to serve pre, post, and during dinner.
As events resulted in these neighbors moving elsewhere, Ellie and Walt joined Manor Country Club where they joined in on other social activities. Walt taught Ellie to golf who soon became a great golfer, joined the women’s golf, and placed in several tournaments. They both joined the club's bowling league and Ellie joined the women’s bridge club. They also had their dinner parties but without the themed attire. During this time, Walt had become an orthodontist and eventually opened his own practice where Ellie became his receptionist/assistant.
As friends got older they retired and moved away from Maryland. So when Walt retired they followed some of their friends to New Bern, N.C. where they resumed their golf outings, bridge games, and dinner parties. Eventually those friends dwindled one by one, along with Walt who passed away in 2013, so at age 87, Ellie moved back to Maryland to live with her daughter where she lived her remaining years.
Services and Inurnment will be held at a later date privately at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. If desired, Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were handled by the Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
