Edward "John" Corrothers

Edward William Corrothers, affectionately known as John, aged 81, departed this life on Friday, May 14, 2021.  John was born on May 23, 1939 in Los Angeles, California.  He graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1956 and was later drafted into the U.S. Army.

John served in the Army from 1958 to 1972.  He attained the rank of Captain in 1968 and during his time in service toured in several overseas countries including Germany, Korea, and Vietnam.  His military decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars.

After his time in the Army, John lived in Louisville Kentucky and worked for the WLOU Radio Station and Ford Motor Company.  In 1984, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Brentwich University in 1989.

He later moved to Maryland where he worked and retired from General Electric and University of Maryland.  He also was an investor and operator at Tuxedo Limousine, LLC.  During that time, he received his Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Chesapeake Bible College in 2006.

John was known for his designer suits, polished appearance, and commanding presence.  He was a skilled roller skater and enjoyed collecting watches, fixing up old cars, listening to audiobooks, and spending time with family.

His life will forever be cherished by his surviving wife of nineteen years, Heather Corrothers; sister, Tara Schoenfeld (William); sons, Eddie Corrothers (Adrienne), Michael Corrothers, Joel Corrothers, Jason Corrothers (Heather), Harold Corrothers, Robin Adkins, Ryan Adkins (Crystal), and Zachary Corrothers; daughters, Tonda Corrothers, Jessica Frias (Jacob), and Carole Corrothers; nephew, Jonathan Shortt; niece, Whitney Schoenfeld, grandchildren, Shawn Thomas, Edward Corrothers Jr., Marcus Corrothers, Taylor Corrothers, Genesis Corrothers, Marcus Corrothers, Jacob Frias, Jayden Frias, Jade Frias, Ashtyn Morinchik, Hunter Corrothers, Maximillian Corrothers, Madeline Corrothers, Asher Corrothers, and Arden Corrothers; close friends, Sharon Johnston, Greg Thomas, and Regina Raffety; and a host of other relatives and friends that will sorely miss him.  John was preceded in death by his father, John Corrothers; and son, Andre Corrothers.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2021.  A viewing will be at Singleton Funeral Home in Glen Burnie, MD from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  A memorial service will be at Temple Baptist Church in Glen Burnie, MD from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The family is kindly asking that flowers not be sent, due to CoVid-19.
