Edward Joseph Wefelmeyer Sr., 72 of Preston, MD, passed away on April 9, 2024 at the University of Maryland Shore Medical center at Easton, MD after a battle with heart disease. Ed was born on October 18, 1951 at the Annapolis Hospital to the late Herman Sr. “Joe” and Mary Wefelmeyer.
Ed grew up in Severn, MD on Quarterfield Road in a house built by his father. He shared a loving home with his parents and three brothers, Herman Jr., Jim, and John.
He graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1969; worked as a Maintenance Technician at the Nevamar Corporation; then as an Instructor at the Arundel Institute of Technology (AIT), after graduating from AIT; and he finished his career in the Electric Shop at the H.A. Wagner power plant operated by Constellation Energy, formerly BG&E. Ed was always a reliable technician with an unparalleled work ethic, and the person that his co-workers would seek out for advice on difficult projects. He always took pride in his work and there was only one way to complete a job, the right way. Ed’s occupation was as an electrician, but he was known as a man that could fix or build anything. He was often called upon by family, friends, and neighbors to repair their cars, wells, TVs, plumbing, HVAC, construction projects, house wiring, and pretty much anything else that you can think of. He did perform the odd side job for extra money, but most of those jobs were done to help someone in need at no cost. He even continued to consult on projects at the power plant and take care of any projects that he could around his home, even while battling his illnesses.
Ed married his wife, Sharon Wefelmeyer (Graboski) in January of 1973. He and Sharon raised their two sons, Rob and Ed, Jr. on Solley Road in Glen Burnie until 1985 and then in the community of Chesterfield in Pasadena. Ed and Sharon moved to their dream home on Maryland’s Eastern Shore outside of the town of Preston in 2005, where he resided until his passing.
Ed enjoyed a full life that was always filled with family, as his family was his number one passion in life. Ed enjoyed many outdoor activities including hiking, backpacking, and raising a vegetable garden. His favorite activities were fishing, crabbing, and camping trips with family and friends. Ed’s presence on his boat and around the campfire will be missed by all that had the chance to share them with him. Another place where Ed’s presence will be sorely missed is during family Christmas festivities. Ed loved Christmas and always did it big; he would give Clark Griswold a run for his money with his lights, dinners, and festivities. However, it came down to his love of spending time with family, every year was a big “fun old fashioned family Christmas.” During his later years, Ed’s passion for family has been centered around his two grandsons, Braeden and Brody. He loved attending their hockey games, plays, and any event they participated in that he could make it to. In recent years Ed even enjoyed having the opportunity to travel with his wife, his sons, and their families. He was able to enjoy family trips to California, New England, and Europe.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Mary Wefelmeyer. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon Wefelmeyer; his son Rob Wefelmeyer and wife, Leia; son, Ed Jr. and wife Danielle; grandsons, Braeden (Rob and Leia) and Brody (Ed and Danielle); brothers, Herman Jr., Jim, and John, and their families.
May you rest in the peace that you have earned. You were loved by many and will be missed by many, Dad/Pop-Pop.
