Donald Ellwood Smith, 95, of Smyrna, Delaware, formerly of Ocean City and Pasadena, Maryland, passed away on December 20, 2023. Don was born on May 23, 1928, in Manhattan Beach, Maryland, to the late Gladys and Charles Smith. He started serving his local community at the age of 15, as a volunteer fire-fighter at Earleigh Heights Fire Department for at least 20 years. While volunteering, Don worked at Suburban propane, and then made fire-fighting his career for over 23 years in Anne Arundel County, serving in various positions. Don also served his country in the National Guard. He was a member of the I.A.F.F. Local #1563, the Anne Arundel County Retired Fire Fighters Association, the Elks Lodge, and Christ the King Catholic Church, formerly Holy Trinity. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, fishing, playing cards, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Don was predeceased by his devoted wife of 65 years, Dorothy R. Smith. He is survived by his loving children, Linda A. Silvaggio, David C. Smith, and Mark J. Smith; cherished grandchildren, Kevin M. Silvaggio, Ashley N. Duckman, and Dustin K. Smith; and beloved great-grandchildren, Spencer Silvaggio, Turner Duckman, Lucy Duckman, and Hudson Smith.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Hwy), in Glen Burnie, on Tuesday, January 2nd, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 3rd, at 11 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 7436 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Glen Burnie, Maryland 21061. Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
