Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Carl Alva Milliner, Jr. of Millersville, MD passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. Embodying the values of dedication and service, Carl proudly served 27 years in the United States military, the first 3 years in the U.S. Army and 24 years in the U.S. Air Force. After this commendable military career, he continued to serve his country as a civilian at the National Security Agency for another decade.
Carl was born in rural southwest Georgia on January 7,1937 on his grandfather’s 205-acre farm. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, not so much for the “catch” as for just being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and building things with his hands. He created beautiful birdhouses, as well as furniture and built-in cabinets.
Above all, Carl was a family man and a friend to everyone he met. Nothing was more important to him, and he was always there to lend a helping hand. Doing for others gave his life meaning and made him the happiest.
Carl’s legacy is inseparably intertwined with that of his devoted wife of 68 years, Hilda Ann Nicholson. Their bond was a testament to love and commitment that was woven together by unwavering devotion and support. He is survived by his daughter, Christie Hunter, and his grandchildren Elizabeth Myers (Clayton) and Robert Hunter. He is also survived by his brother-in-law William (“Bill”) Nicholson. In addition to his loving wife, Carl was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bob Hunter, and his parents Carl and Myrtle Milliner.
A visitation in honor of Carl will be held on July 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a celebration of his life at 5:00 PM at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A., located at 1 2nd Avenue S.W., Glen Burnie, MD 21061. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Carl are invited to gather and reflect on the indelible impact of a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and served honorably.
