Angela Marie Hurst

April 19, 1940 — October 29, 2023

Nanny, Mom, Aunt Dee, Ms. Dee, the Slade Lunch Lady, the Cake Lady, the Snowball Lady, Little Sister of Minerva, and most importantly Mrs. Harold Arthur Hurst, our mom happily answered to all of these names.  Angela was adored by her devoted husband, Harold.  This steadfast couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 20, 2023, and they have been together since both were teens.  Our dad misses his soulmate with every fiber of his being.

Succumbing to eternal rest after a long and difficult illness, our mom is certainly in heaven.  An active member of the Monsignor Slade School community for many, many years, Angela (Dee) served lunches during the school years and snowballs during the summer.  She touched the hearts and lives of so many as she 'fed the masses.'

Following retirement from Slade, our mom became The Cake Lady, creating beautiful wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and all-occasion cakes for just about anywhere in Maryland.  Her in-home bakery could push out multiple wedding cakes in a weekend, and she and my dad would personally deliver and set up her beautiful confections.

As busy as Angela was, her pride shone through most clearly for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and wonderful daughters-in-law, granddaughters-in-law, and grand-son-in-law.  Her children, Donna Hurst Murphy, Katherine Hurst, and Michael Hurst and his wife, Karen, miss her with every bit of our hearts.  Grandchildren and their wives and husbands love her to the moon and back: Shaun and Kerry Murphy, Jeffrey Murphy and Sarah Brundick, Daniel and Kristen Murphy, Anthony and Nay Murphy, Connor and Kaley Hurst, and Kellyanne and Garrett Snyder.  Her legacy lives on in her ELEVEN great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Murphy Jr., Margaret (Maggie) Murphy, Shaun Murphy Jr., Sydney Murphy, Angela (Angie) Murphy, James Murphy, Riley Murphy, Amelia Murphy, Harper Mae Hurst, Hampton Snyder, and Bennett Snyder.  Angela was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Joseph Bongiovanni, and survived by her loving sister, Mary Welsh and her husband, Tom.

Angela had a fondness for all things Disney, especially Mickey Mouse, and an affinity for wearing scarves and sweaters.  Angela loved warm weather, and spring/summer were her favorite seasons.  So, we hope you will join us on Friday, April 19, 2024 (her birthday) for Angela's Celebration of Life Day.  We will begin the day with a Catholic Mass celebrating her life.  We will proceed to the gravesite for internment.  A reception will follow.  Upcoming specific details will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Angela’s name at www.alz.org.

We ALL know that Mom/Nanny/loving wife is at PEACE in HEAVEN with the Lord and our Blessed Mother.

God Rest her Soul!
