Amy Jean McKusky, 51, of Severn, passed away at her home on July 8, 2025. Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, she is the loving daughter of Patricia and Eugene Shelley.
Amy was a remarkable individual whose passion for education and sports profoundly impacted the lives of many. She graduated from Dallas High School in Dallas, Pennsylvania, before pursuing higher education at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, where she received her bachelor's degree. Her thirst for knowledge led her further to University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she earned her master's in education.
Amy dedicated her professional life to teaching, influencing the minds of countless young students. She taught at Brooklyn Park Middle School from 2000 to 2012, followed by Crofton Middle School from 2012 to 2016, and since then, she has been inspiring students at Archbishop Spalding High School. As a passionate educator, she strived to ignite curiosity and a love for learning in each of her students.
Her impact went beyond the classroom; Amy was also a fiercely dedicated coach. From 2000 to 2016, she helped lead the field hockey team at Severna Park, sharing her knowledge and love for the sport. Since 2016, she continued to nurture young athletes as a coach at Spalding, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to empowering youth through sports.
Amy was an avid baseball fan, finding immense joy in watching her boys Alec and Colby play. She had an admiration for their pursuits, particularly relishing the moments spent watching her son Joey swim and practice karate. She embodied the spirit of encouragement and pride as she cheered for her children from the sidelines.
In addition to her educational and coaching activities, Amy played a significant role as a club member for Morgan's Message, and class moderator mentoring students from the classes of 2023 and 2028. She will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege to know her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion for teaching and coaching will forever resonate in the lives of those she touched.
Amy is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years, Jim McKusky; her cherished sons, Alec, Joseph and Colby McKusky; loving parents, Patricia and Eugene Shelley of Odenton; and her dear sister, Tracy Shelley (Louis Lupero) of Orlando, FL. She will also be missed by her beloved parents-in-law, Judy and Joe McKusky; brother-in-law, Chris McKusky; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Freeman (Derek), Lara McKusky and Kate Biggs (Tim); and many loving nieces and nephews. Amy was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Shelley.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, Glen Burnie, on Tuesday, July 15th, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 AM, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
