Alvin Henry Clarke, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Crownsville, Maryland. Born on May 29, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland, Alvin was a man whose life was marked by devotion, and a profound commitment to his family and faith.
As an accomplished electrical engineer, Alvin earned his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1971. This achievement was just one indication of his intelligence and drive. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to his craft, contributing significantly to the field while showcasing his expertise and innovative spirit. However, it was not only his professional accomplishments that defined him but also his love for his family and his deep roots within his church community.
Alvin was a proud charter member of Glen Burnie Baptist Church, and, while living in Tennessee, was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir City where he devoted countless hours as a deacon, usher, Sunday school teacher, and greeter. His commitment to his church and his faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through challenges and enriching his relationships with others.
Outside of his professional life and church involvement, Alvin’s hobbies included walking, swimming, reading, and traveling.
Alvin leaves behind a loving family, including his beloved sons, David Clarke and his wife Gail, and Stephen Clarke and his wife Barbara. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Melinda (Ken) Benedict, James (Kate) Clarke, Stephanie Nicole Furry, and Timothy (Patrice) Clarke, his granddaughter-in-law, Alley Clarke, and also through his great-grandchildren, Austin, Evie, Gracelyn, Noah, Lillian, Miles, Kaden, Christian, Dylan (Emily), Carter, Tanner, Madeline, Everett, Graham, and Harvey. Notably, Alvin is also survived by his great-great-granddaughter, Rowan, as well as his sister-in-law, Geraldine Clarke.
Alvin was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Jean; his beloved grandson, Matthew Clarke; his brother, Paul Clarke; and his parents, Ethel and Alvin Clarke Sr.
A graveside service to honor Alvin's life will be held on November 7, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland, providing a moment for friends and family to gather together to pay their respects and celebrate his life.
Alvin Henry Clarke, Jr. will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and community contributions but especially for his wisdom, and dedication to family and faith. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone he touched throughout his life journey.
