To the people who loved her, she was Alma, Love, Mommy, Grammy, MeeMee, and GiGi.
Alma Catherine Scriba (née Foster), aged 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on December 19, 1935, to the late Joseph and Ethel (Ladner) Foster, Alma was the eldest of eight siblings.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick Carl Scriba, with whom she raised three children: Frederick Scriba, Robin Singer, and Sandra Cook. Alma’s love only grew as her family did—she was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Frederick, Brittany, Amy, Cameron, Candace, and Nikolas. Her heart was fullest when surrounded by her cherished great-grandchildren, Ava, Mia, Grace, James, Kali, Willow, Brooks, Evie, Matthew and Cameron, each of whom she watched with pride as they learned to walk, swim, dive, and grow.
For the past 26 years, Alma lived with her son and daughter-in-law, where she found joy in the little things: tending to her yard, basking in the sunshine, and spending long summer days by the pool—Miller Lite in hand (in a small glass, of course). Her favorite words might have been, “GiGi—watch this!” as her great-grandchildren leapt into the pool showing her their latest trick.
Fridays were reserved for time with her dear friends at the Severna Park Elks, where for 30+ years she was known for her smile, her loyalty, and her fondness for a good bus trip or a simple night out. Alma’s love for life showed in countless ways. She was quick to join family for dinners out in town, loved her signature coral nail polish, and preparing her famous deviled eggs and crock pot mac and cheese for holiday meals. She was a fan of the TV show Blue Bloods, a voracious reader, and never turned down steamed crabs by the pool with family and friends.
She is survived by her brothers, Bernie and Tommy Foster; and joins in eternal rest her late siblings including her sister, Carolyn, Paul, Jerry, Jimmy, and Jeanie. Alma Scriba’s presence was felt in every backyard flower, every shared laugh at the Elks, and every cheer from the pool’s edge. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the family who adored her and in the memories she made with everyone lucky enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma’s memory to a cause close to her heart: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org ). Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., on Friday, June 6th, from 10 AM – 12 PM. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 12 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
