Anthony Pokorny

January 26, 1940 — June 28, 2018

Anthony A. Pokorny, 78, of Gambrills, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2018. He was born in Annapolis to the late Anthony and Marie Pokorny. He graduated from Arundel High School in 1958. Tony retired from the Maryland State Police after 34 years of service. During that time, he also served in the Army from 1963-1965. He was a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, FOP, Odenton Heritage Society and the Turtle Club. Tony was an avid bowler for 40+ years and played slow pitch softball with the State Police and also fast pitch with Gambrills Athletic Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Pokorny.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Charlette (nee Mongold); loving son, Greg Mazzella and his wife, Amy; and his cherished grandchildren, Anthony and Marissa Mazzella.
The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Monday, July 2nd, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, 11am, at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church. Interment Nichols Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Ebenezer UMC Building Fund, 4901 Woodbine Road; Sykesville, MD 21784 or Nichols Bethel UMC, 1239 Murray Road; Odenton, MD 21113.
