Yvonne Strawser

November 2, 1945 — January 19, 2023

Yvonne Irene Strawser (nee Nissley), 77, of Bowie, MD, passed away on January 19, 2023, with her family by her side.  Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Gladys Nissley of Baltimore, Maryland.  In 2020, she laid to rest Donald Strawser, her beloved husband of 55 years. Yvonne is survived by her loving daughters, Donna Griffith (Roy), of Bowie, MD and Michelle Hankle Strawser of Glen Burnie, MD. She is also survived by cherished grandchildren, Joel, Jared, Nate (Emily), Drew (Anna), Grace (Nathan), Elyse, Jordon, Mason, JT, Rhia, Catherine, Cecilia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Yvonne was born in York, PA on November 2, 1945.  When Yvonne was four years old, she moved with her parents and older brothers to Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Edmonston High School in 1964.  A vibrant and outgoing woman, Yvonne worked in customer service for many years before retiring in 1999. Yvonne married Donald Strawser in 1965.  They lived in Glen Burnie, MD for 34 years before relocating to Palm Coast, FL in 1999. A woman of deep and unwavering faith in Jesus as her Savior, she was an active member of Palm Coast Community Church, where she participated in Bible studies and the women’s fellowship, building many lasting friendships. In 2019, Donald and Yvonne returned to Bowie, MD to reside with her eldest daughter’s family.

For many years, Yvonne enjoyed camping, bowling and spending time with friends. Over time, she became increasingly fond of beach trips, reading good novels, and crocheting.  More recently, she enjoyed bird watching. In addition to giving her great pleasure, these activities provided opportunities to spend time with those she deeply loved.

Yvonne was immensely proud of her family, and leaves a legacy of countless beautiful and cherished memories, many of which revolved around her children and grandchildren.  She loved sharing her favorite meals and playing games, often joining her family around the kitchen table or the firepit to play Scrabble and Catch Phrase.  Forever optimistic and eager for adventure, even as her health began to decline in May of 2022, she continued to meet each new morning with the words, “Today’s my best day, so what are we going to do?”

Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, on Friday, January 27th, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, 10:30 AM, in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
