After high school, he joined the Navy from 1960-1964, then he met and married his wife of 57 years, Dixie Lea (Daggett) Wilson in 1965 and settled into his new career as a steamfitter apprentice, in the local 438. They moved to Florida for a few years and returned to Maryland in 2020 when they bought a home in Chestertown.

Jack believed in being an active part of his community, he was in the Jaycee’s for over 15 years and held many leadership roles. After aging out of the Jaycee’s he got involved with the Broadneck Elks to continue his community service, and again served many leadership roles, including Exalted Ruler. He was an avid follower of politics, even running for office on two separate occasions. The things he enjoyed most were spending time with his family, traveling, his model trains, and golfing while he still could.
