William Tully, 90. Born on Feb 24, 1922. Passed in his Severn home on December 30, 2012. Bill is survived by his children, Kathleen, Gordon, and Gail Tully (Vic Froehlich); stepsons David (Mary Jo), and Donald Volk; and five Grandchildren, Ryan, Christian, Stephen, Gairm, and William. Preceded in death by wife Dorothy (Coulthard Volk), ex-wife and friend, Jeanne (Norman) and granddaughter Meaghann.
Born in Lowell, MA, graduated cum laude from Tufts; Presidio of Monterey, CA; and the Russian Institute at Columbia, NYC. Bill enjoyed chess, and a life long poetry exchange with Bob Collen and was Poet's Corner host at Pascal Senior Center.
Bill served in the US Army throughout WWII as a radio operator, MP Desk Sergeant and combat paratrooper. Joining the newly formed Air Force in 1950 William Tully distinguished himself during the air war in Korea where his Russian language and communications intercept skills helped facilitate allied air dominance. During the Cold War as both a USAF Chief Master Sergeant and later as a NSA Research Analyst he pioneered new intelligence techniques vital to our nation's security.
Dad was a soldier with a poet's heart.
