Shirley Y. Shumate Hawkins was born on June 29, 1957 in New York City, New York to John Henry and Betty Shumate. Shirley served as a school nurse for 14 years with the Prince George's County Board of Education. She also served as a nurse for ARC for 16 years, and was a member of DEA. Shirley loved to knit and crochet. She loved art and crafts. She loved to read and play scrabble.
Shirley is survived by her son, Mackenzie Hawkins; her sister, Linda Shumate; and a host of loving family and friends.
