Maude Sauerhammer

July 13, 1919 — January 18, 2015

Maude Malinda (Boggs) Sauerhammer, daughter of Lee A. and Hattie (Dixon) Boggs was born in Iredell County, North Carolina, July 13, 1919 and departed this life on January 18, 2015. She was the 6th child in a family of 8 children.
Following graduation in 1936 from Harmony High School, Harmony, North Carolina, she was employed as a bookkeeper. In the early 1940's, Maude moved to Baltimore Co. Maryland. Her first position was with Montgomery Ward Company on Monroe Street and Washington Blvd., Baltimore. Later she began a career at a bank in Glen Burnie and retired from what became the Bank of America.
Maude met the love of her life, Leonard Clifton Sauerhammer, and they were married April 23, 1944 at her parents' home near Olin, North Carolina. Maude and Leonard established their first home in the Catonsville area, eventually moving to Linthicum Heights where she resided until her recent move to Morningside House Assisted Living. Leonard predeceased her on April 20, 1988.
Maude and Leonard were very active participants in their church and community. Maude was known for her gardening, especially the flowers she faithfully arranged for worship services at Linthicum United Methodist Church. She served on numerous committees, boards and work groups in many organizations in the church and community.
Having no children of her own, she shared selflessly with her nieces and nephews. We will long remember her blessings when difficulties come into our lives, when we celebrate major events, and just everyday encounters.
Maude is survived by a sister, Mattie Snow, Statesville, North Carolina, her sister-in-law, Audrey Sauerhammer, Hampstead, Maryland, 2 nephews and their spouses, 3 nieces and their spouses, 3 great nieces and their spouses, 3 great nephews and their spouses, and 4 great-great nephews and 1 great-great niece.
Maude had a long and generous life sharing with innumerable persons her caring love, time, talents and resources. She influenced many persons causing positive changes in the lives of others. Her presence will be greatly missed.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church, 200 School Lane, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090.
